The Kindling of a Flame--Nightmare Sequence Two

I awoke, whole and unscathed, but breathing heavy as I put a hand to my side. No wound, nothing. I couldn't believe it. The pain had been so real. I looked around myself to see nothing but darkness.

"Hello?" my voice echoed eerily. I got to my feet, trying to see anything in the darkness. I could not see anything, despite my cat-eyes, but I heard voices from somewhere.

"Have you seen her?"

The voice was familiar--Darkstar?

"No," another voice that was familiar. Quinn.

"No," Quinn continued, "but I've gotten to the point where I don't care anymore."

My heart lurched.

"How can you say that?" Dark argued.

"I never did understand her. She's just so different! She always keeps to herself all the time."

"Do you blame her with Sharidia running around?"

Quinn was silent for many moments, and my heart beat painfully in my chest. I gasped for breath, unable to breathe in the darkness. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

Darkstar was the one to break the silence, "Well, it hardly matters. She was trouble from the moment we met her."

I was dumbfounded, Darkstar, too?

"Face it," Darkstar said, "We're better off without the likes of her."

A door closed in the darkness, sounding as dead and final as the sealing of a crypt. The crypt in which my hope and joy had been sealed.

I closed my eyes, miserably, and prayed for some type of release.
