The Kindling of a Flame--Stepping Up

As the Queen studied the book, a Gate flared right near where we stood. She looked up, rising to her feet. Her blue-green eyes flashed, "Who would dare?!"

The Queen's personal guard surrounded the Gate. As I watched, a familiar dark grey form stepped through, as amber eyes raked across every being in the room. Sharidia stepped through, kneeling, "Greetings, My Queen."

The Queen closed the book with a nod, "Sharidia, we were just speaking of you."

Shard raised a brow, "Oh, indeed?" Those amber eyes glanced at me, "With an Exile no less?"

Those blue-green eyes glared at Shard disapprovingly, "You are being brought up on very serious charges, Commander."

Shard crossed her arms, that superior smirk crossing her lips, "Am I? And what might these ‘charges' be, Majesty?"

The white-furred ruler rose, motioning to the guards. As they stepped forward to take Sharidia into custody, she said, "You need not worry about that until after you have been Cleansed. Only then will you be pure enough to receive my judgement."

As the guards encircled Shard, she drew the blade at her back. It thrummed as it came from it's scabbbard, the light gleaming darkly off the blade, "I warn you," she said, her amber eyes narrowing, "You are no match for me."

Krolaun stepped forward, his blade still in hand, "But I am!" The elf glared hatefully at the Tyberan commander, "You have called down the heavens, you evil wretch, and now you shall have what you wish."

I finally stepped forward, something within me beginning to smolder, "Krolaun, no!"

He turned his eyes on me; strange eyes filled with a malicious fury that only wanted to see the death of the demon-spawned Tyberan before us. I returned his glare calmly, for I felt no fear of him. Never of him.

"She has tormented me for years beyond counting," I said, drawing the Dagger of Mystics from my hip. It came free of its sheath with a small hum of its own, the honed edge catching the light and flaring momentarily, "If this is anyone's fight, it is mine."

He regarded me for a moment, and then his sword lowered as he smiled, "It's about time you realized that."
