As we walked, I quietly asked, "What will happen tomorrow, Bright One? What is it that you and the Queen have planned?"He clasped his hands before him, within his volminous white robes, "You will duel with Sharidia, as planned. The Queen, the elf, and I will watch from the safety of the Royal balcony above. A shield will be placed around the arena to prevent anyone from entering that I do not wish to allow in. Sekhmet will be on the balcony with us as well. I have faith that the Containment Collar we placed on her will be sufficent enough to keep her from causing trouble, but I will keep Lord Krolaun with us, in case anything should go wrong."
I nodded, falling silent. He made it sound so simple, but it was anything but. While Krolaun was on that balcony with Sekhmet, he would still be in danger. Danger he didn't need to be in.
"Katja?" Bast said quietly.
I looked over my shoulder, "Yes?"
"Why do you hide what you feel?"
I was astounded to have someone ask me that, "I..." I didn't know what to say.
"I knew, back after you fought Shard, that you cared for him. The first name you called in your pain was his, not mine. Instead of using whatever energy you had left to reach for my help, you reached for him.
"Your reluctance to let him fight Shard. Your fear. The very thought of losing him terrifies you, doesn't it?"
I bit my lip, closing my eyes against tears I couldn't begin to understand. Bast had been right, so painfully accurate. I raised my eyes, looking into his crystalline blue as I drew a slow, careful breath. I had already admitted it, by my very actions.
"I love him, Bright One. So help me, I admit it," I sighed.
