I turned, looking at the door to the guest rooms that were ours to use. If Krol was gone, he wouldn't be back until he was ready. I walked down the hall, past the doors to the guest rooms, intending to choose one to stay in. However, the Amulet around my neck flared as I passed one of the doors. I paused for a moment, and continued on. But, something within me nagged.Could it be...?
I returned to the door, tapping on it lightly. I ran a hand through my hair, and after many moments, there was no answer.
"Perhaps I'm just being foolish," I murmured, sighing forlornly.
I stepped back from the door, turning to go back down the hall. I was rather surprised when the door vanished before I could turn. Krolaun was sitting on the bed, regarding me from the shadows. I stood in the doorway, uncertain.
"I...I thought you might be asleep...I didn't want to wake you..." I stammered.
"You should know me better," he said quietly.
"I was coming here to...to...to say goodnight...but if you were sleeping..." I took a single step backward.
He leaned forward slightly, peering down the hall past me, "Are you sure?"
I had no reply for that, I could only look at him with my vivid green eyes. I wanted so badly to speak then, but my voice betrayed me.
"Kat..." he began, "I have learned, and this is true with you, that if the words want to come, they will come in time. If you force them, then the meaning will be lost."
My eyes fell to the floor, "I suppose you're right," I murmured.
He crossed the room, taking up my hands in his. His touch was so warm, so gentle. I could feel his eyes on me, his voice, soft and wonderful wafted over me, "Something is bothering you, but you won't tell me what it is."
His forehead brushed against mine and he pushed my head up. I, however, kept my eyes on the floor. He spoke again, "Would you rather look at the floor all night?"
I bit my lip, "No," I said softly.
"Then don't."
At that moment, he kissed me. It was so unexpected, yet expected all at the same time. His lips were soft against mine, but the move was all too brief. He pulled away, his eyes taking in my surprise. He bowed his head, "I'm sorry," he whispered.
