The Kindling of a Flame--The Gift

The next night I resumed my vigil by the fireplace. Near at hand was a glass of elven wine, that I drank only sparingly. I stared into the flames, thinking about everything and nothing all at once. I was startled when a messenger approached me, bearing a letter from Krolaun. It told of his difficulties in WaterDeep, but assured me that he would return to the Inn soon. I used my small magics to create a pair of protective bracers for him. Exhausted, I could only send a short message of my concern for his well-being. That and the bracers were given to the messenger to deliver.

Krolaun returned, as promised, and we shared a bottle of wine before the fire. He was reluctant to relate all that went on in WaterDeep, but he sufficed to say that his mission was a success.

Little did we know just how well it had succeeded.
